Until this visit, when we have Wendy with us.
We had barely arrived in the temple complex in Nara when a helpful guide materialised at Lindsey's elbow. We knew he was a proper guide because he was wearing a badge and stuff. He spoke perfect English. He asked Lindsey if we would like a (free) guided tour. We didn't really. We like just pottering around. So he handed us maps, leaflets, bits and pieces and gave us lots and lots and lots of information about Buddhism in Japan, pagodas and their construction and other stuff. He was very lovely and very helpful. And eventually he let us escape to look at things.
But if it is Wendy who is drawing the attention of the Helpful Spirits, you have to wonder why they talk to Lindsey!! (There was a woman when we were at Fushimi Inari who also offered Lindsey a free guided tour but she went away when Lindsey declined her offer. So far the Helpful Spirits are ignoring me :-D )
We had a lovely day in Nara. We pottered around the temple complex and ambled around the deer park. The Buddhas are very camera shy (no photos allowed). The deer are not (photos definitely allowed). We warned Wendy that if she had deer food she should be hasty in getting it out. I think she might not have taken us as seriously as she should because she took a while getting out of its packaging, by which time at least one deer was impatiently stamping its foot and was about to head butt her. We had burgers in Mos burger for lunch and then headed back to Fushimi Inari to our holiday house. We had intended to go to the ramen bar at the end of our tiny street for dinner but decided that, although we had only done 14000 steps during the day, what we really wanted to do was to go inside and put our pyjamas on. So we bought chicken, rice and salad from the Konbini, put our PJs on and had a Quiet Evening In
