Weekend

My goodness, but it was noisy in Docklands on Saturday morning.

The builders next door were a-buildering away with enthusiasm and a loud radio.

The pile drivers at the construction site at the end of Collins Street were pile drivering away with equal enthusiasm, although not with a radio that I could discern.

But what were they doing by the ferry port? They' had signs up along the Esplanade saying there was an event in progress. But what event?

I went out and wandered up to find out and discovered that they were setting up for a tiny street festival, with food trucks, a silent disco, children' rides and other activities.  Apparently it is happening 3 times over the winter - again in August and then in September. I got there shortly before it opened, 12 - 7, but it looked as though it was going to be fun.

I didn't go while it was open. I wandered to the supermarket and pottered around and did a few useful things at home. I did run across one of the Garden Club members later in the afternoon. She and her 3 or 4 year old were going over, despite the fact that it was raining. They had their raincoats and hats and boots on so were prepared. I also had a rain jacket and a hat (but shoes, not boots) on and was on my way to the convenience store around the corner. I managed to get quite wet just doing that.

There are two convenience stores by my place. The nearest  I go to if all I want is milk. The other one I go to if all I want is wine.  Otherwise I go to the supermarket which is only a 10 or 12 minute walk away. Plus there is another, bigger supermarket about a 20 minute walk away, or three stops on the tram. The advantage to that supermarket is that it is also adjacent to a Dan Murphy's liquor store and an Asian supermarket. The disadvantage is that I can only buy as much as will fit in my Granny's shopping trolley.

The rain had gone by Sunday morning. I made my way to East Melbourne in the sleepy Sunday sunshine, where I met Lindsey and Ian, plus Freyja and Simon. We piled into Ian's car and went to Warragul for a Family Sunday Lunch to celebrate Matthew's recent 60th birthday. All five of us siblings were there and as many of the next generation as could make it. It was a good afternoon. Lots of conversation, lots of magnificent food, lots of wine and beer. And sunshine.

I came back on the train with Wendy. We had to change to a coach at East Packenham but even so that dropped me more or less at my back door. Getting from the station to my place was more problematic than I had anticipated - I arrived back at exactly the same time as the footie finished at Marvel Stadium. It was like swimming against a tsunami, only against the entire content of people from the stadium. I did get back safely, but it took almost twice as long as it usually does.

It was a good weekend, rain notwithstanding
