Rain, New Blinds and Tomatoes

The forecast for Thursday on Docklands was pretty dire. Very wet, windy and on the cool side.

Fortunately, I had many things that I could do inside. All the catch-up stuff that needs doing when you have been away for a fortnight. Sorting out the washing and ironing, the rubbish and recycling, the carpets and floors, the bed and the chairs.

I did, however, need to go to the supermarket. I was almost out of cat food and completely out of vegetables. I chose a time later in the afternoon when it wasn't raining with enthusiasm. It was just a bit damp. It was drizzling lightly when I came out of the supermarket. Now bear in mind that I am a 10 minute walk from the nearest supermarket. And let me tell you that when I got back to my place I was as wet as I had expected to be in Osaka on Tuesday!

I might have come in and changed into my nightshirt and dressing gown. I couldn't see any point in changing into clean and dry day clothes at almost 4 in the afternoon. My trolley was completely wet. It went into the shower recess. My bags were hung on door handles to dry. My coat was hung on a hook in the bathroom. The shopping was just put away as normal.

Yesterday morning, at exactly 7:30 as planned, The bloke from the Victoria Curtains and Blinds company came to install my new bedroom blinds. I ordered them in late April, the technician came to measure a few days later, so I was unsurprised to get a message on the Thursday before to say they were coming to install them on Tuesday. Except, I was still in Japan on Tuesday. Fortunately we could reschedule to yesterday.

By 8:00 my blinds were installed and working. I can once again open the blind closest to my bed. They are almost the same colour and design as the originals so there's nothing startling to see. But I am pleased.

All three blinds were frayed along the edges

Shiny new blinds that go up and down
and don't have frayed edges

My tomatoes were ripe when I came home

The plant is still fit and healthy but I am not expecting it to produce any more flowers or fruit. I was going to pull it but I think I have decided to leave it for now. Even if it doesn't fruit again, it does provide some greenery in the sunroom/winter garden.

It is very distracting when you are doing a Zoom Japanese lesson and you look up to see this out your window

I think they might have been setting out from the park behind those buildings because they were quite low and rose up from there. There also four balloons but I didn't get photos of them. I was supposed to be learning Japanese and not taking photos of hot air balloons. Austin has suggested that I should sit on the other side of the dining table with my back to the windows. This is a good suggestion.
