Smith & Deli

I had forgotten that if you went along Degraves Street off Flinders Street you would find lots of little eateries and fun shops and interesting things. It looks like a dingy alleyway but behaves like one of Melbourne's laneways. So much had I forgotten, that I might as well never have known.

Then Freyja and Simon took us along it on TCF's first morning here and I was reminded. We went for dumplings. And very delicious they were too.

There are lots of interesting places to eat, including a branch of Smith & Deli which is a partner to Smith and Daughters, with another branch of Smith & Deli in Collingwood. They serve interesting and delicious vegan food.

Our friend Sandy is over from Perth. She eats vegan. Lindsey and I arranged to meet her for lunch in Smith & Deli. And it was very delicious

I had teriyaki tofu with sweet corn and broccoli with miso and sesame. Sandy had MacnCheez with two salads. Lindsey had "chikin" with the broccoli and sweet corn. Then we shared a raspberry and passionfruit cruffin.

A perfect lunch sized portion

My share of the cruffin

It was quite busy with lots of people coming in for takeaway orders and a steady turnover on the small number of tables upstairs. I have definitely added it  to my places for lunching.

We all came back to my place for a bit, then Sandy went off to the station to go about the rest of her afternoon. Lindsey and I went to our Japanese class.

I came back from the class and had a portion of a lasagne that I made a week or so ago. It was a big one and I sliced it up and put the portions in the freezer so I could have it as something quick when I come back from the classes. I have some portions of chicken and veg stew as well. Better than eating disappointing burgers, KFC or other fast food on my way home. Also cheaper!
