Rome

I made it to the Rome exhibition yesterday.

There were no delays on the trams and I got to the museum a bit early. So I had lunch in the cafe. Again. In order to avoid another cold and claggy pie disappointment, I had a cheese and Vegemite sandwich, a hot chocolate and a jam scone.  The sandwich was fresh and soft. The hot chocolate was fine. And the scone was delicious if you called it a jam biscuit. It was a bit too crunchy and not fluffy enough for a scone but it made for a lovely biscuit.

The museum was once again packed with school parties when I arrived, not all of whom were in the Rome exhibition. They had pretty much all gone by 2:00, which was my time slot.

The exhibition itself was quite good. I really enjoyed the visual display of key pieces of Roman architecture as they were in the classical era and as they are now. I have, in fact, been to all but one of them and it was interesting and rather fun to look at places I had been and how they once upon a time looked.  I also enjoyed the map of the expansion of the Roman Empire. I would have liked to see more items of daily life (cooking gardening, shopping, playing) and maybe fewer busts of people. And I wish it had been a bit more interactive.  On the whole, though, I enjoyed it.

It was raining very lightly when I came out of the museum. I walked down through the Exhibition Gardens and caught a tram back to Docklands. I should have walked up to St Vincent's Plaza which is where that tram starts and I could have added it to my Tram Collection. I think it might be the shortest tram line in Melbourne. It runs from St Vincent's Hospital to Central Pier in Docklands. I have, in fact, caught it multiple times but never the whole way from the hospital to Central Pier, or indeed, the other way around.

What I forgot to do yesterday, while I was in town, was to pick up the picture frame I have waiting for me at Kmart. I shall  go and do that after lunch today.
